If a golfer lacks a good hip hinge, it can affect posture, balance, and the ability to stay in their golf posture throughout the swing.
In this video, I share two Functional Golf System warm-up movements you can use in a lesson today. These exercises help golfers feel hip movement, improve mobility, and prepare the body to make the swing.
We begin with alternating forward lunges and arm swings up and back to activate the core, shoulders, and thoracic spine. Then we use alternating backward lunges with arm swings down and back to encourage hip extension, balance, and coordination.
These are simple ways to help a golfer move better before asking them to swing better. If you enjoy these bite-size movement ideas and want a deeper dive into golf-specific assessment and training, check out the Functional Golf System certification.
The Functional Golf System is a specialized certification designed to help golf professionals better understand, assess, and improve the way their clients move.
I recommend the certification because it gives you practical, golf-specific movements you can use immediately in your lessons. The assessment and training exercises replicate the three-dimensional actions of the golf swing, helping clients feel posture, balance, rotation, loading, shifting, and sequencing in their own bodies—not just hear about them.
When golfers can feel the movement first, the instruction makes more sense. They become more engaged, practice with greater confidence, and often improve more quickly. The Functional Golf System helps you prepare the body to make the swing by giving your clients the physical resources they need to move better, swing better, and play better.
