This simple daily routine will help you develop a smoother, more coordinated golf swing through repetition\.
Find a safe place to practice, grab a golf club, and move at a comfortable pace\. Simply listen, follow along, and allow your body to feel each movement\.
Let’s get started\!
Swing Cue: WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT → FLOP
Welcome, Gary.
This five-minute routine will help you groove a wider backswing, start forward with your lower body, swing the club out to the right, and finish in balance.
Move slowly and comfortably. Keep your feet planted, and place a chair nearby for support if needed.
Let’s begin.
Stand with your feet slightly wider than your shoulders.
Soften your knees.
Lean forward slightly from your hips and let your arms hang comfortably.
Feel both feet pressing firmly into the ground.
Make three small practice swings.
Back and through.
Back and through.
One more—back and through.
Stay balanced and let the club move freely.
Now we will work on the backswing.
Stretch your arms away from your chest and make a wide backswing.
You do not need to make a big turn.
Simply feel your hands moving away from your body.
Return to the starting position.
Let’s repeat that four times.
WIDE.
Return.
WIDE.
Return.
Keep your feet steady.
WIDE.
Return.
One more.
WIDE.
Return.
Now add the lower body.
Make your wide backswing.
To start forward, gently press your lead foot into the ground and begin turning your belt buckle toward the target.
Your lower body starts first.
Your arms and club follow.
Let’s rehearse that slowly.
WIDE → LOWER BODY.
Return.
WIDE → LOWER BODY.
Return.
Two more.
WIDE → LOWER BODY.
Good.
WIDE → LOWER BODY.
Now we will add the direction of the swing.
Imagine the ball is sitting in the center of a clock.
Your target is at twelve o’clock.
As you swing through, send the club toward one o’clock—slightly out to the right of the target.
Do not force it.
Simply let the club travel to the right before it turns around your body.
Make a small practice swing.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT.
Return to your starting position.
Again.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT.
Keep your feet grounded.
One more.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT.
Now let’s add the finish.
After you swing out to the right, continue turning toward the target.
Let the club finish naturally over your shoulder.
Allow it to flop over your shoulder—soft and relaxed.
Hold your finish for a count of two.
If you feel unsteady, make a smaller swing or use the chair for support.
Let’s put the entire movement together.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT → FLOP.
Hold your finish.
One…two.
Reset your feet.
Again.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT → FLOP.
Hold your finish.
One…two.
Let’s do three more.
Move smoothly.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT → FLOP.
Good balance.
Again.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT → FLOP.
One final swing.
Feel your arms wide.
Start forward from the ground.
Send the club out to the right.
Finish completely.
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT → FLOP.
Hold your finish.
One…two.
Great job, Gary.
Practice this routine every day. Begin with small, slow swings. As your balance and confidence improve, gradually make the motion a little longer.
Remember your swing cue:
WIDE → LOWER BODY → SWING OUT RIGHT → FLOP.
Wide going back.
Lower body starts forward.
Swing the club out to the right.
Finish completely and let the club flop naturally over your shoulder.
